HW BEAUTY REVIEW: LA BACIAL AT LA SOURCE SPA

When it comes to beauty, I’d consider myself pretty high maintenance. Besides my AM/PM skincare routines, I also have a dedicated body care routine to take care of my dry, eczema-prone skin.

However, I must admit that one area I often neglect is my back, though it’s honestly not for lack of trying. The fact is, like most people, I’m just not flexible enough to slather every bit of my back with skincare. Plus, it’s hard to tell just what’s going on back there – smaller imperfections like whiteheads, dark spots or tiny pimples go unnoticed and untreated when they’re not in my direct line of vision.

That’s why I jumped at the chance to get a back facial, also known as a bacial. Even though I don’t have back acne, I was sure that I had whiteheads or blackheads, at the very least.

I exercise regularly and I know that it’s common for sweat and bacteria to get trapped by the fabric of workout attire, leading to clogged pores. In addition, my skin is generally prone to hyperpigmentation, which means that even small pimples or insect bites can leave long-lasting stubborn dark spots.

Eager to tackle these issues, I tried the La Bacial treatment at La Source Spa, a back treatment that targets pimples, clogged pores and dark spots.

Where: La Source Spa, #01-03/04 Thong Teck Building, tel: 6732-1318.

Treatment: The La Bacial is a specialised treatment that focuses on the back, one of the most neglected areas of the body, and prone to pimples and clogged pores.

The treatment aims to deep cleanse and exfoliate skin to reduce the appearance of scars, while targeting clogged pores to prevent future breakouts. It also uses LED light to calm inflammation, reduce acne-causing bacteria and improve collagen production for firmer and smoother-looking skin.

Price and Duration: La Bacial costs $228 for 60 min.

Products Used: All the products used in this treatment are from INNI by La Source, a spa-grade, natural skincare range made with gentle yet effective ingredients.

What to Expect: A quick skin analysis is done before the treatment to assess the main skin concerns. My primary concerns were clogged pores and a few dark marks left behind by mosquito bites from a beach holiday a few weeks ago.

The therapist began with a thorough cleanse of my back, followed by a scrub and the use of a steam machine to soften and prep my skin for extractions. I must admit, I found the extractions slightly more uncomfortable than facial extractions, perhaps due to the fact that I had never had it done on my back before. Nevertheless, the process was over in less than 10min, and my therapist was skillful and gentle.

Right after the extraction, an Omega Light Therapy machine was used. My therapist chose the green and yellow LED lights for me, to calm inflammation and boost radiance respectively. After 10min of each light setting, my therapist doled out a quick and relaxing back massage to ease tension and stress.

Then, she applied a purifying mask to leave the skin looking rejuvenated and radiant. After about 15 mins, the mask was removed and the therapist finished the treatment by applying a toner on my back to help clarify the skin.

The results: The skin on my back felt so much smoother and dark spots looked less visible. I also noticed that my skin looked brighter and less sallow after the treatment.

Verdict: This bacial is the perfect treatment if you’ve got skin woes like acne, clogged pores or dark spots on your back. It’s also a must-have if you’re headed to a fancy event where you’ll be donning a backless dress.
